Shore durometers measure the depth of an indentation in the material created by a given force on a standardized presser foot. The depth is dependent on the hardness of the material, its viscoelastic properties, the shape of the presser foot and the duration of the test.

Our shore durometer is a reliably robust device that will measure the impression hardness of soft materials such as coatings, plastics and rubber, without shock. 

Ours comes equipped with a drag indicator, which holds the highest measured result and a simple test block.

How to use the shore hardness tester

Performing a shore hardness measurement is simple with our solution. Just follow these four easy steps: 

1. Turn the adjustment screw (4) anti-clockwise until the zero-position is reached 
2. Make sure the indenter (1a) is loose 
3. Release the graduation scale by loosening the adjustment screw (4). Turn the revolving graduation scale (5) until the pointer (6) is at zero 
4. Hold the durometer in vertical position above the specimen 
5. Press the durometer down without shock until the presser foot (1B) is in full contact with the specific. The drag pointer (2) gives the maximum reading of the hardness.
