TQC Sheen Sag and Leveling Film Applicators

Manufactured by TQC Sheen, our paint testing specialist brand, we offer a range of sag index applicators and sag and leveling applicators.    

Sagging is a coating defect as the result of excessive flow on inclined or vertical surfaces. It causes uneven coating thickness with the excess of paint accumulating at the substrate edges.  

We help our customers in the paint industry to measure and control the sag resistance of their products with our portfolio of sag index and sag leveling applicators. 

Sag Index Applicator

The TQC Sheen Sag Index Applicator is especially designed to measure sag resistance. It features guidance plates that help you to achieve straight draw downs on glass panels and test panels.  

The process of applying the coating with the sag index applicator is the same as with standard bar applicators. However, after the coating is applied, the test panel or chart is lifted and turned so that it’s positioned horizontally at 90 degrees – preferably with the thickest coating at the bottom of the sample. You can determine the sag index by observing the first track that doesn’t show signs of sagging onto the track below.  

We make two sag index applicator models. The difference between these options lies in the spacing between the notches – which are either wide or narrow.   

Sag and Leveling Applicator

The TQC Sheen Sag and Leveling Applicator is a special dual-function film applicator. On one side it has 10 gaps to test the tendency to sag in relation to the film thickness. On the counter side, five pairs of notches of increasing depth are made – creating two sets of film stripes. The merging of these stripes can be evaluated to define the leveling ability.
