TQC Sheen Pressure Density Cup

The TQC Sheen Pressure Density Cup was developed to provide highly accurate specific gravity measurements of a liquid’s density with a high level of repeatability. 

Description

Developed by TQC Sheen, our paint testing specialist brand, the pressure density cup gives you fast, simple and accurate pressure testing.  

A sample’s density or specific gravity (SG) is affected by entrapped air bubbles in the liquid under test. The TQC VF2095 SG-cup has a fixed internal volume of 100 ml. which is compressed by the mechanism of the density cup. The goal of this is to minimize the effect of entrapped air bubbles. 

The pressure density cup testing process

After rotation, agitation or dispersion gas and air can be entrapped within a material. Under pressure the air will dissolve into the liquid. Any bubbles that are left undissolved will be compressed to a fraction of their original size.  

The density of the liquid is defined at a very high level of repeatability by weighing. 

Accurate pressure testing process 

Due to the weighing process our specific gravity measurement records the density of a liquid with a very high level of repeatability due to the weighing process.

Easy clean pressure testing  

The TQC Sheen Pressure Density Cup can be taken apart with no hassle to allow for easy cleaning. 

Specific gravity testing process  

To perform a specific gravity measurement using our pressure density cup you’ll need to:  

  1. Make sure all components are completely clean and dry. 
  2. Weigh the cup and note the weight 
  3. Remove the pressure release housing and cap by turning the handle anticlockwise. 
  4. Unscrew the plunger 
  5. Fill the cylinder with the test sample until it’s almost full. Make sure the test temperature is correct. 
  6. Replace the pressure release cap and reassemble the pressure release housing, clamping the cap in place. 
  7. To set the release pressure turn the handle fully clockwise. 
  8. Hold on tight to the cylinder with one hand. Point the pressure release housing away from you, and make sure it points toward a suitable container or anything else that may catch the expelled material. 
  9. Use the other hand to slowly turn the handle clockwise until it’s fully depressed. This increases the internal pressure to 10,3 bar (150 psi). 
  10. Wash off the expelled sample and dry the exterior of the cup thoroughly. 
  11. Put the pressure density cup in the desktop holder for 30 minutes to reach temperature equilibrium. 
  12. After 30 minutes take the pressure density cup out of the desktop holder, clean any expelled sample and weigh again. 
  13. Calculate the mass of the test sample by subtracting the empty weight from the full weight 
  14. To calculate the density, divide the mass with the volume in milliliters (see calibration certificate for exact volume). 
  15. Disassemble the pressure density cup and clean all surfaces thoroughly before the material dries or hardens.
