Description

Hardness testing with an accurate pendulum tester

This flexible and easy to use pendulum tester is a reliable instrument for hardness testing on a wide range of inks and coatings. It offers many unique features that ease defining hardness by the König and/or Persoz method, as described in ISO 1522. Both methods work on the principle that the damping time of a pendulum oscillating on a sample indicates the hardness. 

How the pendulum hardness test works

The pendulum hardness test is based on the principle that the amplitude of oscillation of a pendulum touching a surface decreases more rapidly the softer the surface is. The TQC Pendulum Hardness Tester works with both König and Persoz pendulums, you can specify whether you would like either one or both when ordering, by adding one as an accessory. Both are based upon the same principle, but differ in respect of dimensions, period and amplitude of oscillation. 

Why choose the TQC Pendulum Hardness Tester

This ergonomic pendulum tester is a great addition to a test and inspection lineup.  It has a straightforward calibration menu that allows you to get all of the details you need whether carrying out König or Persoz testing.  

The TQC Pendulum Hardness Tester is also designed to reduce human error. The pendulum is positioned automatically by means of a stepper motor. Its release is also automated, thanks to an electro-magnetic system. 

How to use our pendulum tester

It is easy to use this reliable pendulum tester and you can choose to attach pendulums for either König or Persoz testing. The pendulum is positioned fully automatically by means of a stepper motor. Also, the release of the Pendulum is automated through electro-magnetic system. The end of a test is indicated by a visual and acoustic signal.  

Two hardness testing methods in one

The TQC Pendulum Hardness Tester is a modular testing system, which allows you to carry out König and/or Persoz methods by attaching the appropriate pendulum. Pendulums can be ordered separately. Once the correct pendulum has been attached, you can switch between methods at the push of a button. For both, the amount of time it takes for the pendulum to decrease its swinging angle is used to determine the hardness of the surface material being tested.  

König hardness testing 

The König pendulum consists of an open framework connected by a cross-bar with two balls attached to the underface. The lower end of the framework is formed into a pointer and a weight sliding on a vertical rod and attached to the cross-bar is used to counterpoise the pendulum. The damping time, in seconds, for the oscillation amplitude of the König pendulum to decrease from 6°to 3° is measured.  

Persoz hardness testing 

The Persoz pendulum is made from an open framework with an upper cross-bar that has two stainless steel balls inset to form a fulcrum. It also has a lower cross-bar that forms the pointer. The damping time, in seconds, for the oscillation amplitude of the Persoz pendulum to decrease from 12°to 4° is measured.

Meeting the testing standards and international regulations associated with your testing method is always an essential. That’s why this pendulum tester is compliant with ISO 1522, the global standard for carrying out a pendulum damping test on paints, varnishes and coatings.
