Ray-Ran Ohaus Scout Portable Balance

The Ray-Ran Ohaus Scout takes laboratory-grade weighing portable - density determination and mole weighing on both SKX and STX, plus a 4.3-inch color touchscreen with QWERTY keyboard for GLP/GMP data entry on STX, across 23 models from 120 g to 8.2 kg.

Description

Ray-Ran Ohaus Scout gives QC laboratories and research teams portable weighing that keeps its laboratory-grade applications – density determination and mole weighing on every model, touchscreen operation with GLP/GMP data entry on the STX sub-range – so a portable balance no longer means giving up features you would expect from the bench.

Configurations

Scout SKX: 11 models, backlit 6-digit 7-segment LED display. Applications: weighing, density determination, mole weighing. Capacities from 120 g (0.001 g readability) through 8200 g (1 g).

Scout STX: 12 models, 4.3-inch WQVGA color touchscreen with on-screen QWERTY keyboard. Full applications set: weighing, percent weighing, parts counting, check weighing, dynamic and animal weighing, totalization, density determination, display hold, and mole weighing. Same capacity range as SKX.

Interface and applications

Every Scout carries an ABS housing, removable stainless steel pan, and replaceable in-use cover. STX adds a 4.3-inch WQVGA color touchscreen, one-second stabilization time, save-to-USB function, and support for up to 9 operating languages. Both sub-ranges include an integral weigh-below hook for below-balance weighing, a transportation lock, menu lock switch, security slot, integrated overload protection rated at ten times the capacity, stability indicator, and auto shut-off. Power runs from the included AC adapter or batteries (not included). Communication is via optional accessory kit only – RS-232, USB host, USB device, Bluetooth, and Ethernet interface kits are sold separately and support LIMS integration and traceable data output for QC documentation.

Sub-ranges: SKX vs STX

Two sub-ranges cover different operator and workflow needs:

Scout SKX (entry): backlit 6-digit LED display keeps the balance simple, readable, and lower cost. Choose SKX where the workflow uses density determination or mole weighing but does not need touchscreen data entry.

Scout STX (touchscreen): 4.3-inch color touchscreen with QWERTY keyboard supports GLP and GMP data entry directly on the balance – no separate PC or label printer needed for traceable QC documentation. Choose STX where audit-trail-level record-keeping or multi-application weighing is the daily job.

Why it matters

Laboratory-grade applications in a portable format: density determination and mole weighing come as standard on every Scout, so a portable balance no longer means dropping to weighing-only capability.

Touchscreen GLP/GMP data entry (STX): the on-screen QWERTY keyboard lets operators enter sample IDs, user IDs, and batch references without a separate PC – traceable QC records straight from the balance.

Modular connectivity: buy the interface kit the site actually needs – Bluetooth where wireless matters, Ethernet for LIMS integration, USB or RS-232 for simple printer output. No mandatory connectivity pack.

What happens after you inquire

A balance specialist will confirm the Scout sub-range (SKX for weighing, density, and mole; STX for touchscreen data entry and the full applications set), the model that matches your capacity and readability, and the IP SKU reference. We will also scope any interface accessory kit (Bluetooth, Ethernet, USB, RS-232) and confirm lead time and delivery. Where the workflow needs EC Type Approval, we will route the inquiry to Navigator NVT/M.

Service and warranty

Features & Benefits

  • Density determination on every Scout: on-instrument density mode across SKX and STX, with an optional top-loading kit accessory – portable density work without a fixed lab setup.
  • Mole weighing on every Scout: on-instrument mole application for teaching labs and formulation work.
  • 4.3-inch WQVGA color touchscreen (STX only): with on-screen QWERTY keyboard for GLP/GMP data entry direct from the balance.
  • One-second stabilization on STX: fast throughput for high-volume sample workflows.
  • Save-to-USB (STX only): export data direct to a USB drive – no PC needed to move records off the balance.
  • Up to 9 operating languages (STX): same balance, same UI across multi-region sites.
  • Modular connectivity: RS-232, USB host, USB device, Bluetooth, Ethernet accessory kits sold separately – buy the connectivity the site actually needs.
  • Integral weigh-below hook: supports density determination and below-balance weighing without add-on hardware.

FAQs

  • Scout SKX has a backlit 6-digit LED display and covers three applications: weighing, density determination, and mole weighing. Scout STX upgrades to a 4.3-inch WQVGA color touchscreen with a QWERTY keyboard for GLP/GMP data entry, and adds applications including percent weighing, parts counting, check weighing, dynamic and animal weighing, totalization, and display hold. STX also includes a save-to-USB function and up to 9 operating languages. Both sub-ranges cover the same capacity range (120 g through 8200 g).

  • Scout SKX supports weighing, density determination, and mole weighing. Scout STX adds percent weighing, parts counting, check weighing, dynamic and animal weighing, totalization, and display hold. Both sub-ranges support density determination via an optional top-loading kit accessory.

  • No. Scout SKX and STX do not include EC type-approved variants. For portable balances with EC Type Approval, refer to the Ray-Ran Ohaus Navigator NVT/M variants – the only EC type-approved portable balances in the Ohaus range.

  • Scout sits above Navigator in the Ohaus portable range and is the premium portable tier. Compass is a basic tabletop portable at a lower price point. Navigator adds rugged construction and EC Type Approval (NVT/M variants). Scout adds laboratory-grade applications – density determination and mole weighing on both sub-ranges, plus touchscreen operation with GLP/GMP data entry on STX. For desktop laboratory-grade weighing with a full applications set, refer to the Explorer, Adventurer, Pioneer, or PR ranges.

  • Connectivity is via optional accessory kit. Scout supports RS-232, USB host, USB device, Bluetooth, and Ethernet interface kits (sold separately). STX also includes a save-to-USB function directly from the touchscreen.
