The Ray-Ran Ohaus Navigator is the only Ohaus portable balance range with EC type-approved variants for legal-for-trade work, covering 120 g fine-readability weighing through 22 kg industrial capacities across two sub-ranges (NV and NVT) on rugged, battery-capable hardware.
Ray-Ran Ohaus Navigator gives industrial workplaces, portable QC teams, and field operators a rugged, multi-purpose balance that stands up to daily moves between weighing points – and, on the NVT/M variants, the only EC type-approved portable weighing in the Ohaus range.
Navigator NV: 13 models across three platform sizes. Ø 93 mm draftshield models (0.001 g readability, 120 g to 320 g). Ø 145 mm mid-range (0.01 g, 220 g to 620 g). 190 mm x 144 mm higher-capacity (0.01 g and 0.1 g, up to 3200 g). Not EC type-approved.
Navigator NVT: 12 models on a single 230 mm x 174 mm platform. Eight standard models (0.1 g and 1 g readability, 2200 g to 22 kg) plus four EC type-approved /M variants (1600 g / 0.5 g, 3200 g / 1 g, 6400 g / 2 g, 16 kg / 5 g).
Every Navigator carries an ABS housing, stainless steel pan, transportation lock, slip-resistant adjustable feet, a leveling bubble, a backlit LCD, and a menu and calibration lock switch. Power runs from the included AC adapter or 4 C batteries (not included). Applications on-instrument include basic weighing, parts counting, percent weighing, and check weighing. Overload and underload protection, stability indicator, low-battery indicator, auto shut-off, and user-selectable print options come as standard. Connectivity is via optional accessory kit only – RS-232, USB, and Ethernet interface kits are sold separately, alongside a rechargeable battery kit, carrying case, weigh-below kit, in-use covers, and stacking kits.
Two sub-ranges within one Navigator family:
Navigator NV: the range for fine-readability portable weighing. Choose NV where sample capacity is under 3200 g and readability matters – the Ø 93 mm draftshield models hit 0.001 g, which is unusual for a portable balance.
Navigator NVT: the range for higher-capacity portable weighing on one large platform. Choose NVT for goods-in, dispatch, or workplace weighing where samples run over 2 kg. NVT/M variants are the only EC type-approved portable balances in the Ohaus range, so any legal-for-trade or prescribed-application portable weighing runs through NVT/M.
EC Type Approval on a portable balance: Navigator NVT/M is the only Ohaus portable range with EC type-approved variants, so sites that need legal-for-trade weighing on the shop floor or at the loading bay do not have to move to a fixed installation.
Rugged construction for the shop floor: ABS housing, stainless steel pan, transportation lock, slip-resistant adjustable feet, and a leveling bubble suit balance moves between stations without recalibration cycles between every relocation.
Buy the connectivity you need, not the connectivity in the box: RS-232, USB, and Ethernet interface kits sold separately keeps the base balance affordable and stops sites paying for connectivity they do not use. Rechargeable battery kit available where mains is not at the weighing point.
25 models across NV and NVT. Table below groups them by sub-range and readability tier – see the downloadable spec sheet for the full row-by-row detail.
| Sub-range and tier | Readability | Capacity range | Platform | EC type-approved |
| NV semi-micro (draftshield) | 0.001 g | 120 g to 320 g | Ø 93 mm | No |
| NV mid-range | 0.01 g | 220 g to 620 g | Ø 145 mm | No |
| NV higher-capacity fine | 0.01 g | 1200 g to 3200 g | 190 x 144 mm | No |
| NV higher-capacity standard | 0.1 g | 220 g to 2200 g | 190 x 144 mm | No |
| NVT standard 0.1 g | 0.1 g | 2200 g to 10.2 kg | 230 x 174 mm | No |
| NVT standard 1 g | 1 g | 2200 g to 22 kg | 230 x 174 mm | No |
| NVT /M (legal-for-trade) | 0.5 g to 5 g | 1600 g to 16 kg | 230 x 174 mm | Yes (4 models) |
A balance specialist will confirm the right Navigator model – NV for fine readability, NVT for higher capacity, NVT/M where EC Type Approval is required – provide the IP SKU reference, and confirm lead time and delivery. If the workflow needs connectivity, a rechargeable battery, or accessories like a weigh-below kit, we will scope the accessory pack on the same enquiry.

Navigator NV covers finer-readability weighing across three platform sizes: Ø 93 mm (0.001 g draftshield models), Ø 145 mm (0.01 g mid-range), and 190 mm x 144 mm (0.01 g and 0.1 g higher-capacity). Navigator NVT uses a single large 230 mm x 174 mm platform and covers higher capacities (1600 g through 22 kg) at 0.1 g through 5 g readability. NVT is also the only Ohaus portable sub-range with EC Type Approved (/M) variants.
The Navigator NVT/M variants are the only EC type-approved portable balances in the Ohaus range – four models covering 1600 g (0.5 g), 3200 g (1 g), 6400 g (2 g), and 16 kg (5 g). YA Gold, Compass CR, Compass CX, Navigator NV, Scout SKX, and Scout STX are NOT EC type-approved.
Connectivity is via optional accessory kit rather than included as standard. RS-232, USB, and Ethernet interface kits are sold separately for both NV and NVT. A rechargeable battery kit is also available for sites without a permanent mains connection at the weighing point.
Navigator sits above Compass and below Scout in the Ohaus portable range. Compass is a basic tabletop portable at a lower price point. Scout adds application modes including density determination (on some variants) and a 4.3-inch touchscreen on STX. Navigator is the only Ohaus portable with EC Type Approved variants. For laboratory-grade weighing with a full applications set (density determination, formulation, GLP/GMP data output), refer to the Explorer, Adventurer, Pioneer, or PR desktop balance ranges.
