Ray-Ran Ohaus Compass keeps portable weighing simple, portable, and affordable for workplaces that need reliable everyday weighing without paying for laboratory-grade features. Compass suits goods-in inspection points, stockroom checks, quick-weighing stations, and light sample-prep work – and moves easily from bench to bench, or off the mains entirely. 

Configurations

Compass CR: ABS housing and ABS pan. Standard LCD. 300-hour battery life on 3 AA batteries. Four models covering 220 g through 5200 g at 0.1 g and 1 g readability. Lowest price in the Compass family. 

Compass CX: ABS housing with a stainless steel weighing pan. Backlit LCD with two-button operation. 1,000-hour battery life. Five models covering 220 g through 5200 g at 0.1 g and 1 g readability, plus a 1200 g / 0.1 g mid-range model (CX1201) not available on CR. 

Interface and applications

Every Compass runs on 3 AA batteries (included) or an AC adapter (sold separately). The stackable enclosure lets multiple units share bench space without eating floor area. A slip-resistant transportation lock protects the load cell during moves between weighing points. Mechanical and software overload/underload protection guard the balance against out-of-range samples, and auto shut-off preserves battery life on portable use. Applications on-instrument are simple weighing tasks – Compass is not intended for parts counting, formulation, or other application modes carried by higher tiers. 

Sub-ranges: CR vs CX

Two sub-ranges within one Compass family: 

Compass CR (entry): the lowest price point in the Compass family. ABS housing and ABS pan work well where cost is the driver and the weighing environment is dry, indoor, and low-abrasion. 

Compass CX (upgrade): backlit LCD makes reading easier in variable light. Stainless steel pan resists corrosion and cleans between samples in seconds. 1000-hour battery life triples the runtime vs CR – useful where the balance moves between locations without an AC socket. 

Why it matters

Portable weighing at the entry price point: Ohaus mechanics and 2-year warranty at the lowest-price end of the portable range – so sites that do not need laboratory-grade features are not paying for them. 

Choose the pan and display that suit the site: ABS pan for dry, indoor use (CR); stainless steel pan for damp or sticky samples and easier cleaning (CX). Backlit LCD (CX) helps operators read the display in warehouse lighting. 

Runs off the mains or off batteries: 3 AA batteries (included) or AC adapter. Stackable enclosure and transport lock make it practical to share one balance across multiple weighing points.

Service and warranty

Every Ray-Ran Ohaus Compass is supplied with a 2-year warranty from the date of installation.
