Color on decorated cans is measured using a spectrophotometer – an instrument that analyzes the light reflected from the can’s surface and converts it into numerical values using standardized CIE color scales (typically CIELAB or CIELCH). These values are compared against a brand-approved color standard, with tolerances defining whether the can passes or fails inspection. The total numerical difference between the measured color and the target is expressed as Delta E (ΔE). The Torus Z345 automates this process for decorated aluminum and steel beverage cans, delivering repeatable, operator-independent results.
Accuracy is ±0.5% of indicated load plus 0.005% of capacity – so at any given reading, the total error is that percentage of the reading plus a small full-scale term. Peak load detection freezes the highest reading obtained during the test, so the operator has the failure force after sample separation without needing to watch the display live. Digital display resolution is 1 pound.
A wide range of grips and fixtures suit different destructive test types. Standard wedge grips: A-20 Wedge Grips and A-60 Wedge Grips rated to 30,000 lbs, A-30 Wedge Grips for mid-range applications, and Deluxe Action Wedge Grips.
