Brought to you by Testing Machines Inc, our physical property testing specialist brand, this wood chip classifier is designed for trouble-free chip classification. In fact, with its carefully selected components and minimal moving parts, the 71-01 is the most reliable chip classification system available.

The test operation for measuring chip size distribution is based on several international standards. Our wood chip classifier is capable of meeting most methods when equipped with the proper set of trays and appropriate hole diameters.

Patently brilliant chip classification

The design of our wood chip classifier is based on an original US patent, developed by one of the world’s largest pulp and paper makers.

To be precise, the patent in question is US Patent 4848607 for wood chip size. This was the first time a chip classifier was imagined in which the trays could be locked together easily and remain locked while being shaken. At the same time, allowing them to be movable with respect to each other if they come in contact with an object.

Versatile chip classification

Our wood chip classifier measures the size distribution and relative quantity of chip size fractions for mechanical and chemical wood chips.

We make special trays for our chip classifiers to meet most hole and bar dimension requirements. This allows for chip classification of a variety of other materials requiring size classification.

No-fuss wood chip classification

Simply distribute between four and ten liters of chips onto the top screen, With the press of a button, the chip classification commences.

The wood chip classifier’s automatic timer starts the shaking mechanism and the stack is shaken for around 10 minutes. The large, easy-to-read labels report your test results accurately.

On completion you then remove and weigh the chips in each tray.  By measuring the total weight of each tray you can easily calculate the chip percentage per tray.

Quality chip classification – as standard

The TMI ChipClass-II Specification Configuration 71-01 is built to support your testing processes to international standards, including:

A rugged chip classifier

The TMI wood chip classifier features a strong but compact solid steel base and a low-maintenance shaker platform.

Top-notch chip classification trays

The lightweight, interchangeable trays provide quick measurements. Plus the fast tray alignment guide allows you to set an entire stack of trays on the base with one quick easy motion. Better still – the patented tray interlocks allow you to easily secure an entire stack.

A chip of the old block!

Across the Industrial Physics portfolio we make lots of devices to support your wood chip classification needs. For example, there’s our ChipClass SCAN specification round hole trays, our ChipClass Universal (SCAN / TAPPI) slot/bar trays or our ChipClass Fines Pan.

Types of wood chip classification tests

Wood chip classification methods are based on several international standards, including:

  • TAPPI UM 21 for sieve analysis of pulpwood chips.
  • SCAN-CM 40:01 covers wood chips for pulp production-size distribution
  • Scan 47:92 specifies bar/slots to determine a chip’s thickness
  • The Williams and the WPFL(Hartler/Hatton) classification series
