When you need to produce stress-concentrating notch profiles in Charpy and Izod Impact specimens, look no further than our industry-leading Auto Cycle Notching Cutter.
Developed by Ray-Ran, our Izod and Charpy v notch cutting device accurately prepares notch profiles to a number of international test standards.
Armed with a notching cutter, Charpy and Izod testing helps you to determine the impact strength, or toughness, of a material. These tests measure the total amount of energy that a material can absorb, which relates to the material’s brittleness.
The shape tolerance of notches in impact test specimens has a substantial effect on the accuracy of impact toughness results.
Our custom-built adaptive microprocessor control unit ensures that your feed and v notch cutter speeds enable optimum performance.
Use the integrated membrane keypad of our notching cutter to adjust the cutting parameters, then store them in its memory. You can easily control the cutter speeds ranging from 350 to 2500 rpm. And because you can select minimum feed rates of 0.06mm/rev, cutting parameters are easily achieved, even with the toughest of materials.
The multi-sample loading feature of the v notch cutter vice can cut up to 16 test specimens, 4mm thick, in just 20 seconds! While the quick auto-return feature of our notching cutter ensures the vice is always in the correct place for loading and unloading of test specimens.
The micro height adjustment, notch depth comparator and sample setting gauge ensure the notch depth is perfect.
A polycarbonate guard with an electrical interlock encloses the working area. So you can carry out your v notch cutter work in safety.
Our dual tooth notching cutter wheels are tungsten carbide tipped, optically ground and diamond lapped to close tolerances. Designed to reduce the cutter load on the sample.
The most commonly used cutter wheel profile is the 0.25mm radius V notch. We can also supply you with notching cutter wheel profiles of 0.1mm and 1.0mm radius, as well as 0.8mm and 2.00mm, while ‘U’ notch wheels are available too.
Our Izod and Charpy v notch cutter features an anti-vibration guide rail system that optimizes profile accuracy.
Our notching cutter was built to satisfy the most stringent of national and international testing standards including ISO 179, ISO 180, ASTM D6110 and ASTM D256.
We make a wide range of impact testing devices and accessories. For example, check out the TQC Sheen Impact Test, or the Falling Weight Impact Tester and Manual Basic Falling Dart Impact Tester from Ray-Ran.
We like to share the lessons learnt over many decades of making notching cutters. For example, here’s an Industrial Physics blog that explores the various types of impact test inspection equipment.
