Brought to you by Messmer Büchel, our world leading paper testing specialist brand, our cobb testing products give you accurate measurements of the quantity of water absorbed by a paper or board over a given time period.
When you’re working with paper, board or corrugated sheets, you need to know the water absorptiveness – or the cobb value – of your products and packaging. That’s where cobb testing comes in!
Cobb sizing testers provide a simple, standardized method to quickly determine quantities of water absorbed. Our single-handed clamping and release products can be used to measure the water absorbance of paper or board manually, or with automatic, clamping jaws.
The Cobb value is the mass of water absorbed in a specific time by a one meter sq. sample of paper, board or corrugated. Our automatic cobb tester was developed specifically with standards such as TAPPI T 441, ISO 535, DIN EN 20 535, and TAPPI T 2045 in mind.
Whatever the sector you work in, Industrial Physics has the cobb testing accessories you need. Check out some of the options below and let us know if you have a unique need that we could design and build a solution for.
Our auto-clamping Cobb testing system for corrugated board is a simple, standardized cobb testing method to test the water absorbed by a paper or board over a set time.
We like to share the lessons we’ve learnt over many decades of making paper testing devices.
On the knowledgebase section of our website you’ll find a few blogs on the subject that we’ve published.
First up, there’s this one on how to measure the thickness of paper. Or perhaps you’d prefer to read this piece on testing flexible packaging: equipment and methods.
