Het toestel heeft een meetbereik van: 0-0.050in. (0-1,27 mm) en ontworpen voor zeer dunne materialen zoals dunne kunststoffolies, papier, niet-geweven textiel, karton en batterijseparators. Het motoraangedreven instrument maakt gebruik van het dode gewicht micrometerprincipe voor hoge nauwkeurigheid en herhaalbaarheid. Elke eenheid is ontworpen en vervaardigd voor gebruik waar uiterste precisie vereist is. De constructie van het model 49-86 bestaat uit een zwaar, solide frame dat de eenheid ondersteunt en waarin de reflectieve lineaire encoder en bijbehorende schakelingen zijn ondergebracht. Een digitale uitlezing wordt verstrekt om de specimendikte automatisch weer te geven.
