Minerals Products

Before mineral testing or pigment testing the contents of your inks and coatings you’ll need to prepare properly pulverized and compacted powdered samples.

With an IP device you can produce samples that will generate highly accurate brightness and color measurements to international standards, including ASTM and TAPPI.

We can also help you with bulk density testing of mineral components, such as soil and gravel through to large flakes and cut fibers, with our bulk density inspection devices.

Mineral testing to international standards

We manufacture the equipment you need to prepare your mineral and pigment powdered samples to international standards. Here’s a selection of the relevant processes and the mineral testing machines we designed to support them.

Mineral testing to TAPPI T534 and TAPPI T646 standards

The brightness of clay, or any mineral pigment, affects the brightness of the paper on which it’s used. Which is why we designed minerals testing devices for use in the pulp and paper industries.

Measured brightness isn’t just a property of the material – the value obtained also depends on the manner of specimen preparation. So, specific mineral testing instructions for drying and pulverizing the material – and for pressing the test plaque – have been published. The minerals include kaolin clay, calcium carbonate or any other powdered material that can be pressed into a ‘cake’ for analysis.

TAPPI T 534 and TAPPI T 535 describe procedures to determine the brightness of clay, or another mineral pigment, that have been prepared in this manner. The Technidyne power press apparatus provides all of the equipment needed for the preparation of compacted powdered samples for brightness and color measurement.

Mineral testing to ASTM D1895 standards

This ASTM D1895 process is for bulk density testing of molding powders and materials ranging from fine powders, chemical substances and granules. It’s also suitable for mineral components like soil and gravel, through to large flakes and cut fibers.

The test standard enables you to evaluate the performance and both packaging and fabrication uses of plastic materials. And determine the handling properties and readiness of the material, as well as ensuring the delivery of uniform weights.

Pour your eyes over our reliable bulk density testing devices. They’re custom-built to measure apparent density, bulk factory and the pourability of plastic materials, such as molding powders.

We make four different models of bulk density apparatus. Each of them is custom built to match the mineral testing needs of each of the relevant international ASTM or ISO standard approaches.

Mineral testing to ASTM D3258 standards

We can help you with ASTM D3258 minerals testing: the standard procedure for determining the porosity of white or near white mineral spirits in a paint film. It achieves this by staining to indicate the degree to which a subsequent coat will penetrate.

The test paint is applied to a nonporous surface, air dried, then measured for reflectance. A special colored penetrating medium is applied, the excess is removed in a specified manner, and reflectance measured again. The difference between the two readings indicates the degree of porosity; the smaller the difference, the lower the porosity of the film and the greater its ability to resist penetration.
