When you need highly accurate thickness testing measurements of the depth, width, or length of a material, an Industrial Physics micrometer will deliver fast, consistent results.
A micrometer is a precision measurement tool that’s primarily used for thickness testing. And IP brand TMI Büchel are world leaders in precision contact, microprocessor-controlled micrometer technology.
Micrometers can be used for continuous or single testing and statistical analysis. Some can be controlled remotely through a computer terminal, others are used in conjunction with other testing equipment when measuring material thickness. Want to know more about how they work? Check out our guide to using digital micrometers.
Our digital micrometers use state of the art measuring technology for unrivaled accuracy and they’re available in a range of specifications calibrated to meet international test standards. For example, our digital micrometers and thickness testing gauges will handle most sheet-like substrates and our micrometer film applicators are ideal for research projects to evaluate small variations in film thickness.
What’s more, all of our micrometer technologies bring together unmatched accuracy with robust mechanical design and a modern, contemporary look. For example, check out the:
TMI Büchel 49-56
This popular 49-56 micrometer gives precise thickness measurements. Ideal, whether you’re working with paper, plastic and plastic films or tissue paper, nonwovens, textiles and other sheet-like substrates.
It’s the tool for the job when your packaging sheet materials must hit international standards, including ISO, ASTM, EDANA and more.
The TMI Büchel Micrometer
The TMI Büchel 49-86 micrometer is another great thickness testing option for thin samples and products made from paper, film, or non-wovens. Its precision digital linear encoder measuring system has an ultra-clear, easy-to-read digital display.
It has a measurement range of 0-0.050 in. (0-1.27 mm), but you can talk to us about specialty models – available for corrugated, composites and rubber sheet materials – up to 12.7mm thick.
Any questions about which micrometer you need to get the job done and we’ll be happy to help. Our experienced engineers have a wealth of knowledge and can advise on everything from the simplest case to the most complicated request. Or, simply browse our micrometer range now.
How to validate protective coatings with adhesion and corrosion testing Protective coatings only deliver value if they stay bonded to the substrate and resist the environments they're exposed to. Whether you're coating bridge steel, automotive body panels, marine structures, or industrial components, two families of test give you the evidence you need: adhesion testing and…
Key terms Adhesion: The strength of the bond between a coating and its substrate. Substrate: The surface a coating is applied to, such as metal, concrete, wood, or plastic. Pull-off adhesion test: A quantitative test that measures the perpendicular force needed to detach a coating from its substrate, reported in MPa or psi. Dolly: The…
Coating adhesion and corrosion testing are two complementary coating test and measurement methods used to confirm that a protective coating will perform once a product is in service. Together they answer two questions that matter to quality, R&D, and operations experts: will the coating stay attached to the substrate, and will it protect that substrate…
