Key Standards for Your Automotive Testing

The automotive industry is an incredibly complex one. Today’s cars are incredibly powerful and also have intricate electrical systems as well as new technology, like sophisticated driver-assistance systems that enhance driver experience and safety. Essential automotive standards

There are a few essential standards that must be met by automotive manufacturers.  

IATF 16949 

This is the basic global automotive industry standard for quality management systems. It was developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), with support from AIAG, and companies who want to supply products to the Automotive Industry must be IATF 16949 registered.  

ISO 14001 

The automotive industry is one that is very aware of sustainability and this key standard requires manufacturers to manage and control aspects of their environmental footprint.  

Standards for automotive electronics

The components embedded in automotive electronics systems must be reliable, rugged and built for longevity. That’s why there are some strict quality standards around them, such as: 

AEC-Q100 

These signify the standard tests for active components in automotive electronics systems,  such as switches and power amplifiers (PAs). 

AEC-Q200

These cover the series of tests for passive devices, for example RF filters used in Wi-Fi and cellular communications. 

Automotive testing standards

There are also many different testing standards to take into account when it comes to assessing the raw materials, bonds, coatings and much more when it comes to automotive testing. Just a few things to consider are: 

Hardness testing

Melt flow testing

Impact testing

The standard also covers tension, bend, hardness, and impact tests and is widely used in the automotive industry.
